Seychelles

10 resorts in Seychelles, 3 of them written in full. The register holds 10 in Island & Coastal Hideaway.

10 records, two written, and both of them about land held to be repaired rather than used.

North Island carries eleven villas on five hundred acres and built them from timber and stone taken off the island during its own rewilding — rats and pigs eradicated, native forest replanted, the magpie robin brought back from fourteen birds. Eleven villas exist to fund five hundred acres of repair, which runs the arithmetic of a resort backwards.

Frégate holds seven hundred and forty acres, sixteen villas and about 2,200 free-roaming tortoises, and rations its seven beaches by a sign a guest turns over to reserve one for the day. Two centuries of plantation had cleared the native woodland almost entirely; what is happening now is restoration, not preservation, and the entry says which.

The two neighbours along the same chain arrive at similar densities — about forty-five acres to a villa — by opposite means: scarcity at North Island, protocol at Frégate.
