Americas Estate

Estates of the American mainland — Mexico, the United States, Central and South America. Caribbean islands are recorded on Island & Coastal Hideaway.

24 records from Mexico, the Caribbean coast, the United States and the southern cone. The shelf was opened after the register found a quarter of its American entries filed as coastal hideaways for want of anywhere better to put them.

Acreage in the Americas is usually published and usually needs qualifying. Amanera reports two thousand acres, of which the golf course alone is about three hundred and seventy and the resort's own mountain lies across a public highway. Hualalai's eight hundred and sixty acres cover a hotel, a golf course and a residential neighbourhood under one master plan. Las Ventanas is a genuine beachfront estate with thirty privately owned residences inside the line. The number is never the whole answer.

Public right runs through this shelf more than any other. Hawaii guarantees access to its shoreline and an old trail crosses Hualalai. Mexico's federal maritime zone means Esencia holds the land behind the sand and not the sand itself. Both are stated on the record rather than left for the reader to find out.

Wrong for travellers who want small. These are large holdings with large operations on them, and the intimacy of a twenty-key island is not what the shelf is for.
