Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
Sixty-three villas on one island of ninety, inside a sovereign development of twenty-eight thousand square kilometres.
Nujuma holds an island in the Blue Hole cluster of the Ummahat group, in the Red Sea off Tabuk Province, with sixty-three villas on it of one to three bedrooms, set on the land and out over the water. The architecture is derived from shells, and Wimberly Interiors did the villas, the guestrooms and the spa, with hand-woven Bedouin rugs and bed benches drawn from camel saddles. The island's own area is not published and this record carries none; the figures the development publishes are for the whole of it, and the whole is very large indeed.
The Red Sea Destination runs to twenty-eight thousand square kilometres in Tabuk, with more than ninety offshore islands and some two hundred kilometres of coast, and it is built by Red Sea Global, owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. The published plan is fifty hotels and eight thousand rooms across twenty-two islands and six inland sites, and the Al Wajh lagoon within it covers two thousand and eighty-one square kilometres. Nujuma opened in 2024 as one island among more than ninety inside a sovereign scheme, and that proportion is what this record reads.
One island of more than ninety. The estate's own area is unpublished and the archipelago around it belongs to a state development. What is held here is a tenancy at an enormous scale.
A sovereign fund is the landlord. Red Sea Global is owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which makes this the clearest instance in the register of territory used as an instrument of state policy.
Who it is not for
Nujuma is wrong for anyone who wants an island held outright, since the archipelago is a sovereign development and the villa count is the only figure the house publishes. It is wrong for travellers who want a settled place, as the destination around it is still being built. It is wrong for anyone who needs the island measured, because no area is published. For a holding whose island area is at least stated, Fregate keeps seven hundred and forty acres in the Seychelles.
