Estates by Acreage

The largest territories in the register, and what scale buys.

59 records, ordered by the only measure this collection was built to take. The series is short not because large estates are rare but because published areas are: of everything written so far, not one property carries a site area confirmed by the house that owns it.

At the top, Amanera reports two thousand acres on the Dominican north coast, Hualalai about eight hundred and sixty under a single master plan, Frégate seven hundred and forty, NIHI five hundred and sixty-seven, North Island five hundred, Little Dix Bay five hundred, Amangiri six hundred. At the bottom, Villa TreVille holds about two hectares of Positano cliff and Casadelmar two or three of terraced Corsican garden, and both are unambiguously estates.

Ratio tells more than size. Eleven villas on five hundred acres at North Island; twenty-two cottages on a hundred and fifteen at Petit St. Vincent; twenty-five houses on two thousand at Amanera. Against a hundred and fifty keys on ten hectares at Villa d'Este, which is also a real park and also a real estate. Reading the load on the ground is faster than reading the ground.

Where sources disagree the register carries both and prefers neither. Amanbagh is published at forty, forty-seven and a hundred and five acres; Chiva-Som at seven acres and at seven hectares. Neither has been resolved and neither has been averaged.
