Spain

16 resorts in Spain, 3 of them written in full. The register holds 14 in Mediterranean Private, 2 in Country, Mountain, Lake & Desert Retreat.

16 records from Andalusia, the Balearics and the mainland coast. One is written and it sets the scale: Finca Cortesín holds 215 hectares above the Costa del Sol and undertakes to leave about 150 of them unbuilt.

That undertaking is the country's most interesting fact so far, because emptiness declared in writing is rarer in this register than emptiness owned. A hundred and fifty hectares of scrub and old olive that nobody may build on is what the guest is actually paying for, though nothing on the property says so.

Spain also supplies the inland trade this shelf keeps making. Cortesín chose height and distance over frontage: the sea is a view from the hill and a shuttle at ground level, and the beach club runs only part of the year.

Fifteen records remain unread, most of them Balearic. Cap Rocat — a nineteenth-century fort above the bay of Palma, named in this collection's own definitions and added by the House in September — is among them.
